Geolocation broadly refers to a set of techniques used to pinpoint the location of an object or individual on a digital map based on their geographical coordinates.
Geolocation is a process that determines the geographical coordinates of a person or object using various methods. Here are the most commonly used techniques:
Satellite-based geolocation uses satellite signals to determine the position of an object or person.
IP address geolocation uses the device’s IP address to approximate an individual’s position.
Wi-Fi geolocation utilizes Wi-Fi access point signals to approximate the position of an object or person.
Geolocation Triangulation with cellular signals determines the position of an object or person using cellular tower signals. While less precise than GPS, it’s often used in conjunction with other methods, especially in areas with numerous cell towers.
Legally, and in consideration of employee privacy, the Mobile-Punch app only allow geolocation of users when an action is taken within the app on a mobile device. Geolocation occurs only when an employee performs the punching action.
With the Mobile-Punch app, no geolocation occurs without the employee’s knowledge. Your employer will never know how much time you spend in the restroom, chatting with colleagues, or engaging in other personal activities.
The Mobile-Punch app is configured to perform geolocation for a brief period, up to a maximum of about 40 seconds, to establish contact. An icon appears in the corner of the screen during this operation and disappears when it’s complete; this is visible to the user.
There’s no need to close the app afterward, and continuous geolocation is not conducted. At Mobile-Punch, we do not utilize geofencing. The entire geolocation process is conducted with utmost respect for the employee.
Mobile-Punch prioritizes the security of user data. The data collected during a punch includes the worker’s ID, IP address, GPS coordinates of the project, and activation time. The app does not have access to personal employee data such as home address, social insurance or credit card numbers, contact lists, etc.
At no point will your employer have access to your personal belongings, photos, emails, or other private information. If you wish to share information with your employer through the app, authorization will be required within the app. No personal data is collected without your consent, and data transferred via the app is visible only to your employer.
The Mobile-Punch app functions without a cellular network. Staff can operate the app all day without cellular coverage, and when connected to Wi-Fi or a 3G, 4G, or LTE network, the app automatically synchronizes.
For optimal real-time workforce management between offices and projects, we recommend using the app with a cellular network. Mindful of data usage, we’ve minimized cellular data consumption. The app uses very little data, with a maximum of 16 MB per month for a person who punches 10 times a day, five days a week, over a month. As a reference: 1 GB = 1024 MB.
